Thoriated Tungsten Wire
2% thoriated tungsten wire contains a nominal 2 wt-% or thorium oxide (ThO2)
that is evenly dispersed throughout the entire length of the Tungsten.
The most common type of Tungsten used today. Thoriated tungsten
electrodes provides excellent resistance from weld pool contamination
while at the same time offers the welder easier arc starting
capabilities and a more stable arc. Generally used for DC electrode
negative or straight polarity applications such as carbon &
stainless steels, nickel alloys and titanium.

Tungsten Filament
The tungsten filament is quite sturdy and provides stable and
uniform electron emission, primarily used in scanning electron
microscopy. Custom tungsten filament cathodes in a variety of filament
sizes and configurations and a variety of glass or ceramic bases
are available. Some combinations of various options may not be
possible due to design considerations. All tungsten cathodes are shipped
pre-fired, vacuum clean, and ready to install.

Black Tungsten Wire Applications
The important applications of black tungsten wire are for the production
of coiled incandescent lamp filaments, cathode and support structures
for power tubes, heating elements for high temperature furnaces and
evaporation sources in metallizing processes. Thicker wire sizes,
straightened, finish-ground and cut into rod pieces are widely used for
glass-to-metal seal lead parts in the lighting and electronic
industries.
