Cerium Tungsten Electrodes and Thorium Tungsten Electrodes - Arc Performance Comparison


By compare arc performances, it was determined that thorium tungsten cathode pressure is small than cerium tungsten, 2% Tn-W13.0V, 2% Ce-W12.0V. The service life is related with cathode spot. In xenon stroke light compared these two electrodes found, cerium tungsten end face has slight cathode spot and has smaller loss, and the service life is longer than thorium tungsten. In emission current density, cerium tungsten arc column euphotic belt is bright and long and emission current density is higher than thorium tungsten. When the diameter is large, the minimum arc stability of various electrodes is similar, with the reduction of diameter, the cerium tungsten electrode arc performance is good than other electrodes. The lowest arc voltage of cerium tungsten is 12V, thorium tungsten arc voltage is 30V, so cerium tungsten arcing is more simple.

Cerium Tungsten Electrode and Thorium Tungsten Electrode - Material Properties Comparison


Compared with thorium tungsten electrode on material properties, the work function and α-ray dose of cerium tungsten electrode are lower than thorium tungsten electrode, which has better performance advantages and no radiation. Binary Composite Tungsten Electrodes


In the binary composite tungsten electrodes, W-La-Ce electrode has lower arc voltage and at low current conditions, it has good arc stability. W-Y-Ce electrode composite electrode has best arcing and anti-burning properties. Besides, it has good arc stability and has large thermal power. High Purity Tungsten Granule


High purity tungsten granule refers to highly pure tungsten-based flux. Metal tungsten is processed into fine particles, particle size 20-40 mesh with high purity of 99.99%. It mainly applied in the high-frequency infrared carbon and sulfur analyzer and the results are very stable. Tungsten Accelerator

Tungsten accelerator is a kind of flux made of tungsten, by using burning method to test carbon and sulfur contents. Tungsten Flux

Tungsten flux, also known as tungsten granule, is the processing of tungsten metal into small particles, particle size 20-40 mesh, high purity above 99.95%, so it also called pure tungsten flux. High purity tungsten particles flux is also essential in the analysis of the infrared carbon and sulfur reagents. Tungsten flux has the function of heating, regulating medium pH, mixing, catalyzing, combustion stability, anti-jamming. Raw materials are billet and tungsten powder. Generally tungsten bar is used in the production of tungsten wire. Tungsten flux is better made of FW-1 tungsten powder, its carbon and sulfur blank value is low with less volatile compounds, but the price is high.

Tungsten Electrode Holder

Tungsten electrode holder is also known as tungsten needle holder, tungsten rod clips, clamps, gun holder, tungsten clip, and clamp. During welding, it can clamp electrode to avoid falling. GTAW Welding

The full name of GTAW welding is Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, also call inert gas argon arc welding, namely TIG.

The electrode of GTAW is tungsten electrode or tungsten alloy, because tungsten has the highest melting point of all metal, approximately 6170℉ (3410 ℃). Tungsten and tungsten alloy electrode technical requirements established by the American Welding Society includes eight standard tungsten. Tungsten has two supply states, chemical cleaning or polishing state. Chemical cleaning refers to the state that the tungsten has been drown or forged by chemically clean. Polishing means a kind of tungsten that has a uniform diameter and smooth surface after grinding. Tungsten surface of polished state is very smoothing with perfectly cylindrical, and therefore it can be more stably to delivery heat to tungsten clip. TIG Welding

4.8 Tungsten Electrode

3.0 Tungsten Electrode

3.0 Lanthanum tungsten electrode is introduced in the 1980s from European countries to replace thorium tungsten one. The lanthanum tungsten electrode contains 2% lanthanum oxide(La203). In Europe and Japan, in most industries, lanthanum tungsten electrode has been the most commonly used for its excellent welding properties.

Characteristic

Zirconiated Tungsten Electrode WZ3

Introduction

WZ3 zirconiated tungsten electrode contains 3% zirconium oxide. W is abbreviation of Wolfram (tungsten), Z refers to Zirconium (Zr), 3 means the content is only about 3%. Characteristic

WZ3 zirconiated tungsten electrode is a metal rod that its electrode tip is brown, containing 2.5 - 3.0% of zirconium dioxide. This will help to improve the effect of welding results. Its arc speed is quick and arc stability is stronger than pure tungsten electrode. A small amount of zirconium dioxide can avoid tungstenizing phenomenon at high temperatures to some extent, and in the welding process, the end of the electrode can be maintained the shape of ball, so that it can protect the workpiece. If require minimal tungsten contamination, WZ3 zirconium tungsten electrode is the best choice.

Content

Zirconium is a chemical element with symbol Zr and atomic number 40. Zirconium is a lustrous, greyish-white, soft, ductile and malleable metal which is solid at room temperature. Melting point of Zirconium is 1855 °C (3371 °F). In the case of low temperatures, its molecular structure is monoclinic crystal, under the conditions of 1100 ℃ it will become tetragonal shape, when the temperature rose to above 1900 ℃, it will form the shape of a cubic crystal.

Ceriated Tungsten Electrode WC20

Introduction

Ceriated tungsten electrode contains a cerium oxide additive. This type of tungsten electrode was launched in the 1980s with the gray electrode tip, it enjoyed a great popular by manufacturers after launching. No radioactive element is the main reason of the popular of cerium tungsten electrodes. It can be made through powder metallurgy and rolling grinding and polishing. Thanks to its small dimensions arc current, cerium tungsten electrode is mainly applied to welding process of pipes and stainless steel products.

Charateristics

Cerium tungsten electrode is mainly used to replace thoriated tungsten electrodes, which generally contains 2% cerium oxide. In the case of lower voltage, it is very easy to arc. Compared to pure tungsten electrode, cerium tungsten electrode has lower burn rate and evaporation rate. And these excellent properties will continue to increase depending on the content of cerium oxide. At low voltage, the life time is much longer. This electrode has no radiation, and has a lower melting rate with long life time. In addition, it also has some very outstanding chemical properties: small cathode spots, pressure drop, no burning.

Application

Because of the excellent properties of cerium tungsten electrode, it is mainly used in carbon steel, stainless steel, silicon, copper, bronze and other materials welding. Welded pipes often adopt cerium tungsten electrodes. All in all, the type of tungsten electrode is mainly used in DC welding. Since AC welding, cerium tungsten electrodes will be very prone to splitting.

Lanthanated Tungsten Electrode WL20


Introduction

Electrodes by adding 1.8% -2.2% of lanthanum oxide into tungsten can be called as WL20 lanthanated tungsten electrode. It has the highest content of lanthanum oxide in all lanthanum tungsten electrodes, so its performance will be relatively improved. High content of lanthanum oxide can make the type of electrode quickly ignite the arc, such as welding rod, wire and so on.

Trademark

Because of high content of lanthanum oxide, WL20 lanthanated tungsten electrode is often used in place of thorium tungsten electrode, which has lanthanum oxide content of 1.80 to 2.20%. Content of other impurities is less than 2.0%. Although the content of lanthanum oxide are the highest among three lanthanum tungsten electrodes, but its tungsten content is relatively low. Electrode tip color is sky blue.

Characteristic

Lanthanum tungsten electrode has 2% lanthanum oxide which may be one of the best tungsten electrodes to replace thorium tungsten electrode. Compared to thorium tungsten electrode, lanthanum tungsten electrode has a good arc characteristic, igniting in faster speed with a longer life. It is mainly used in AC and DC power inverter and transformer welding.
